Regular Maintenance of Home Installations — What to Watch For

Home installations rarely get attention while they're working fine, yet regular checks can prevent a large share of the emergency call-outs that would otherwise be needed later.

Some things you can check yourself — a visual inspection of the visible pipes under the sink for signs of moisture, checking that all switches and sockets work normally, and listening for unusual noises in the water pipes when you turn on a tap.

For other checks, it's better to call a handyman, especially if you live in an older building — inspecting the condition of the distribution board, checking water pressure, or assessing pipes that aren't visible to the eye because they run through a wall or floor.

A regular annual check, even when you currently have no visible problem, is usually cheaper than the emergency call-out that follows once a worn part of the installation finally fails at the worst possible moment.
